Dolphin Brawl Approaching

Dolphin Brawl is creeping up real fast. Here is a little video created by member Bob Brown featuring David Cartee to get you excited for the Dolphin Season. Tight Lines!!

HOGFISH-APRIL SPECIES

Habitat and Fishing Tips:

Hogfish are a reef species that inhabit rocky bottoms, ledges and reefs throughout Florida’s off-shore waters. They are easily identified by their long, hog-like snout, which allows them to feed on bottom-dwelling mollusks and crustaceans. Because they tend to root in the sediment in search of small prey, they are not commonly caught on hook and line. Hogfish are primarily harvested by spearfishing, and they are considered to be of excellent food quality.

Hogfish is our species of the month fish. The FWC regulation limit is five per angler. Measurements must be minimum 12″ Fork Length. The cap per fish submittal is 3 per month. The additional point value for a species of the month submittal is double points per fish. Remember, the April wristband (RED)must be in the photo for the submittal to be accepted. Good Luck!!

Quest for the Crest, Final Sail

Bluewater Movements Quest for the Crest, Final Sail is happening in April. Check out their promo video!

Snook-March Species

COMMON SNOOK

Snook is our species of the month fish. The FWC regulation limit is one per angler. Measurements must be between 28″-32″ Total Length. The cap per fish submittal is 3 per month. The additional point value for a species of the month submittal is 100 points per fish. Remember, the March wristband must be in the photo for the submittal to be accepted. Good Luck!!

Tom Green, Custom Rod and Reel, provided some tips in the Sun Sentinel: “Try these tactics to catch snook”

Greene said that if he was going to fish for snook the minute the season opens, he’d be at any bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway from Fort Lauderdale to Boynton Beach.

He’d cast a Flair Hawk jig and bounce it on the bottom parallel to the bridge and along the shadow line on the water created by the bridge’s lights. He also recommended working a Spooltek Lure along the bottom.

“The secret of snook fishing is that snook are feeding on the bottom, not on top,” said Greene, although he acknowledged that the fish will occasionally hit a topwater lure.

Dolphin Seminar-Dennis Forgione

Dolphin Seminar with Captain Dennis Forgione

Join us for our March club meeting with guest speaker, Captain Dennis Forgione. He will be going over tackle, technique, times, and bait to be successful in bringing some Mahi into the boat. Perfect time to be able to get some information, and ask some questions with a pro right before our Dolphin Brawl Tournament on April 22nd.

Please call or email me if you have any questions at all.

2017 Dolphin Brawl

We are still tweaking the rules, but would appreciate any feedback.

Our club hats have come in and will be available for purchase tonight at the club meeting for $25. We still have  shirts from the Sailfish Tournament that would like to get out of inventory. If anyone has friends or family that would like a shirt please consider the Sailfish shirt for $15.

We will be handing out the March wristband for the annual/monthly contest tonight, and choosing the Species of the Month (with the help of Big Louie).

With Dolphin season practically here our raffle items are geared more toward catching some Dolphin.

We will be posting the information for the Dolphin Challenge at Culinary Concepts shortly.  Teams from our club, Lighthouse Point Fishing Club, and the Hillsboro Saltwater Fishing Club will compete against each other to create the Ultimate Dolphin Sandwich. This event we will have lots of food, beer, and fun to go around for everyone!!
