As a reminder, the monthly contest wristband for February will be handed out at this January meeting. Jeff Lyman has won the contest for December, and Chris Thomas is holding the lead in points for the annual contest to Quepos, Costa Rica.

Our member shirts are in production, and will be handed out at the meeting! Our club shirts this year are grey long-sleeve performance shirts, with the new logo and artwork shown below.

WAHOO-January’s Species of the Month

Our second monthly contest has begun with Wahoo as the Species of the Month. Jeff Lyman has won the December monthly length contest with a Sailfish. No member has submitted a Tarpon to win the Species of December. Make sure your orange band is in all fish submittals for January.

2016 Holiday Party

The OAPB Holiday Party

The 2016 end of the year Holiday Party was a great success. Members came out for some music, fun, great food, and the opportunity to talk and mingle with other members. Our White Elephant gift exchange was a blast with gifts being rotated around members, and bringing out the joy in all of us. Additional photos are posted on the club facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/offshoreanglerspompanobeach/photos/?tab=album&album_id=863315967138876

The opportunity for members to give some great ideas for future events were discussed:

1)A women’s angler tournament: Only women are allowed to handle the rod/reels, set the drags, and bring the fish to the boat. All other anglers are there as mates and captains.

2)Discussed the Captain’s and Angler of the Year Awards: The Captain and the Angler of the Year will be going to JP Sportfishing Charters in Quepos, Costa Rica . The trip will be a 3 day trip with one full day of offshore fishing with JP Sportfishing (Hotel and Charter included).

3)The creation of an event for  Mini-Lobster Season down to Marathon, FL.

Fish Verify

There is a new fishing app out there in Beta Stage. I met with the Founder and CEO of Fish Verify. This app allows you to take a picture of your catch it will do a search of your fish, then identify and provide you the minimum requirements and description. Awesome!! How many times are you out there, and your breaking out your hard copy reference book to look for your fish, and still cannot seem to find it. Looks like Fish Verify is coming up with a solution to all of our problems. Click the below link, and you will get a message on how to download the Beta App, and provide feedback as you use it.

Fish Verify

Eligible Fish

The Eligibile Fish list has been updated today. The points system for points per lb has been removed, and points per inch has been added. Also, the minimum OAPB requirements for the fish have changed to reflect FWC minimums. The variations of scale manufacturer makes it unreliable to get accurate values. Now, you will receive points for the fish you submit, and points for the length of the fish caught. If you have any questions please give me a call or email me. 832-509-8833

Thank you,

Shaughn Miller

Fish of the Month

The Fish of the Month for the monthly contest is Tarpon. Normally, the club would choose the Fish of the Month from a random drawing at the club meetings. We are replacing the December meeting with our Holiday Party at 26 Degrees, so the Fish of the Month for January will be chosen at the party.

Events Lineup

The EVENTS LINEUP tab has been updated to reflect the club events that will be coming up. This is more of a visual and description of the events. All events will be posted and updated in the EVENTS CALENDAR.  Let me know if you have some questions, I am always available.

Submitting Eligible Fish for Contest

The Fish Submittal page has been updated to reflect the minimum length requirement next to the fish EX:  Jack Crevalle 36″, This should help anglers identify that they are meeting the minimum requirement before submitting their fish. Also, you should go to the fish submittal page on your iphone or android, then bookmark the page to your homescreen on your phone. This will allow you to simply press the OAPB icon, and the fish form will pop up, with the minimum lengths for each fish on the fish button. I am in the process of creating a fish identification button (picture and description) for the Eligible Species, Should make it quick to identify your species while your fishing.

Thank you,

Shaughn Miller

Captain of the Year

Captain of the Year has been added to the annual tournament. The captain of each boat can build points toward this award when his vessel places 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in any OAPB tournament, lands the Heaviest Fish in any OAPB tournament, and the Fish of the Month/Species of the Month is caught on his vessel. The same angler can receive the Captain and the Angler of the year award. We do have a few members that can run a 4 line spread, fight the fish, gaff, and do all this while controlling the helm. The scoring system and rules are located on the CONTESTS tab. The annual and monthly contest has begun today, so remember to submit your fish. Points will be added up daily, and posted to the OAPB scoreboard. Keep those lines tight, Good Luck!!
